Black Lesbians on TV (real & pretend)

Jasika Nicole is an out actress who plays FBI Special Agent Astrid Farnsworth in Fringe, a Fox sci-fi series. Tonight I will watch the show for the first time just because she is playing on it. If she actually has something to do and is not just on camera for three minutes I'll watch the show. And I hope that if she does have a substantial part that her character isn't "straight" if her character has sexuality.

I wanted a picture of Cheryl & Kima (HBO's The Wire) on my blog and I just came upon this one at another site and snagged it. I mainly started out watching HBO's The Wire because of Kima and then stayed for a while because she had a partner who she shared her life with. The story between these two women didn't go the way I would have liked it to but and I lost track of the series. I saw a youtube video clip where Kima went to drop off a child support payment and Cheryl had another woman there. Kima was paying child support to a child she barely acknowledged.

Hollywood, the land of creativity need to go deeper into relationships than have a couple breakup due to infidelity. And if a woman can have a romantic interest in a lizard in a commercial then why can't a woman have a romantic interest in a woman in a tv series? And I'm talking more than just looking into a woman's eyes. What's more dramatic and comical than real life?

On YouTube I saw clips of a Spanish series that had two women who were lovers. They worked in a hospital. I think the title is Hospital Central. They gave each other looks but they also hugged and kissed like they were adults and not shy teenagers. That's the kind of show I want to watch that is made in the USA. I don't watch much tv so maybe there is a show like that being produced right here in America. If so, please tell me. The little info I get about tv shows is by reading something on the web.

  1. I watch "Fringe." Astrid isn't much of a role. She's usually a glorified lab assistant and "babysitter" for the mad scientist.

  2. Hi Sheila. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I watched a few minutes of Fringe last night and was disappointed but not much because I really didn't think she would have much to do. I posted a note over my monitor and set the timer on the cable box just to see it. I like sci-fi but after knowing in that bit of time that Astrid wouldn't be doing much, I wasn't interested enough to watch more. See you at LL.

The Agenda-Civil Rights

Support for the LGBT Community: While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect. Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples. ... young & old, rich & poor, democrat & republican, black white hispanic asian native american gay straight disable and not disable ... we are and always will be the United States of America. --Barack Obama, (More)
