Swaying

She looked a little disheartened as she sat at the bar, two stools from me. Moments before, she had asked a woman to have a drink with her but the woman walked away without even replying verbally. It was Valentine's Day and I was sitting alone sipping my ginger ale. I had recently been dumped by a woman and wasn't really interested in even eyeing other women. As we sat there in silence, both in our own thoughts, I tried not to look but something about her drew my attention. I pretended to be interested in what was happening around the room so as to seem not to be staring at her. Women, in pairs, were sitting or dancing. We seemed to be the only two who didn't have someone to talk or dance with. So I took a deep breath and moved to the stool seperating us.

"Hi, I'm Salty. Can I buy you a drink or would you like to dance with me." As she turned her head a little toward me, I could see her misty eyes. Tears had not yet began to leak from those hypnotic eyes that she raised slowly. For five tick-tocks, she just looked at me and then stood, walked to the dance floor and waited for me to join her. Without a word, she stepped close to me and we began to sway without touching each other. The music was romantically soft. I'm not exactly sure when, but at some point, she had closed the bit of space and we were swaying together with her head on my shoulder. As we were swaying, my arms remained at my sides until she took my hands and put them behind her back. The light fragrance of her perfume made my nose automatically want to smell more, and without conscious thought, I sort of snuggled against her neck. She felt good in my arms. Halfway through another song, she raised her lips close to my ear.

"I'm Kat."

The Agenda-Civil Rights

Support for the LGBT Community: While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect. Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples. ... young & old, rich & poor, democrat & republican, black white hispanic asian native american gay straight disable and not disable ... we are and always will be the United States of America. --Barack Obama, (More)
