JOY (c)Salty2008

I know you like me.

Not like that.

Yes you do.

No I don't. Leave me alone.

Then why did you kiss me back?

I have to go.

Robin talk to me please. I've got nobody else. You don't have to be afraid. I'll never hurt you. I love you.

I don't want to hear that. We're friends.

If you're still my friend then help me.

I don't know how.

Talk to me. Just, just stay with me for a little while. I -- I feel so bad.

Calm down.

Calm down! Sometimes it takes all I got to not start screaming. I don't want this. I don't want to be different.

Talk to your folks. They ...

Yeah right.

Give them a chance.

Come on Robin. You know as well as I do how my parents feel about ...

Why did you try something now?

Because you were so close. And you smell good. You always smell good.
And -- and I thought ...

What? What did you think?

Sometimes -- when you look at me ... I'm sorry -- I'm sorry.

Joy wait!

I'm sorry Robin! Please don't tell anybody. Please. I can't stand for you to look at me. I'm sorry!

Joy! Come back. Let's talk some more!

As Joy ran, she could barely see where she was going because of her tears. She felt so ashamed and alone. Robin watched until she was out of sight. She didn't know what to do. Joy was her best friend. The girl had run off to do what? Not something foolish, Robin hoped. Should she tell Joy's parents? Surely they wouldn't turn their backs on their daughter. Yes, she'd heard them make bad comments, but now that their own child ....
Robin went home and called Joy's house. She left a message for the girl to call as soon as she returned. A couple of hours later, she was now more worried and called again. But Joy still had not returned. After dinner, which Robin had not been able to swollow, Joy called.

You didn't tell did you?, Joy asked in a flat voice.

I started to because I was so worried about you. But no, I didn't tell. I'm coming over so we can talk.

No. There's nothing to talk about. You can't help me. Nobody can help me. Just promise me that you won't tell.

I promise.

The next day at school, Joy would not talk to Robin. They had two classes together but Joy refused to even look at her. After school, Joy did not ride the bus home. Usually, they sat together and it felt odd not to have Joy there. Later that evening, Robin called her best friend, but Joy would not come to the phone.

What's wrong Joy? You've barely eaten in several days. Are you mad at Robin? Why don't you talk to her? Joy's mother asked.

I'm going for a walk.

Joy, are you in some kind of trouble?

Trouble?

You've been so distant lately. What's ...

I've got things on my mind, that's all.

Problems with a boy? Joy, you're not -- not pregnant are you?

Joy laughed as she went out the door. No Ma, I'm not pregnant. /E\

The Agenda-Civil Rights

Support for the LGBT Community: While we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do. Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect. Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples. ... young & old, rich & poor, democrat & republican, black white hispanic asian native american gay straight disable and not disable ... we are and always will be the United States of America. --Barack Obama, (More)
